The $31.4 million in federal grant funding will advance four projects in three of Charlotte’s Corridors of Opportunity.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. โ The City of Charlotte is set to receive $31.4 million to fund four infrastructure projects in the city’s Corridors of Opportunity, city officials announced Monday.
The federal funding joins the more than $147 million also invested into the program, aimed to support six underinvested areas of Charlotte.ย
โThese federal investments affirm Charlotteโs strategic vision to build a connected, equitable and sustainable future,โ Mayor Vi Lyles said.ย
The federal funds will be split four ways:
- $25 million to create a more accessible and efficient multimodal corridor along Freedom Drive.
- $3.7 million to close and replace the Orr Road rail crossing. The grade separation project is designed to enhance safety while improving rail operations and efficiency.
- $1.4 million to create a dedicated bike path along the Rozzelles Ferry corridor.
- $1.3 million to create a cultural trail along the Albemarle corridor. The plan aims to celebrate local culture while improving safety for pedestrians and cyclists.
โBy focusing on infrastructure that serves all residents, these projects will have a lasting impact on our cityโs growth and quality of life,โ Lyles said.
Earlier this month, city leaders met to discuss the program’s successes and what lies ahead for 2025.โฏ A big part of that plan is continued support for small businesses through the opportunity hub initiative. The hubs offer affordable workspaces for small businesses in the corridors and workshops on things like web design and finance.ย
