US congresswoman Virginia Foxx ‘doing just fine’ after fall at US Capitol

WASHINGTON — Congresswoman Virginia Foxx, who represents North Carolina’s fifth district, is “doing just fine” following a fall down the steps at the United States Capitol in Washington on Friday, according to a statement on X.

According to Foxx’s office, the 81-year-old congresswoman slipped while walking down the staircase outside the U.S. House chamber. After being looked over by medical personnel, she walked on her own to the office of the Capitol’s attending physician.

“Thank you to everyone for your prayers — just a few small cuts and I’m doing just fine,” Foxx wrote on X. “I’m a mountain woman and we’re tougher than a $2 steak.”

Foxx has served as a U.S. representative for North Carolina since 2005. She most recently won reelection in 2024.
