
South Carolina’s majority Republican lawmakers backed Trump’s strikes in Iran while SC’s lone Democrat and longest serving representative calls it unconstitutional.
SOUTH CAROLINA, USA โ South Carolina lawmakers have spoken on the U.S.-Israel strikes on Iran, which killed Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and hundreds of people and more injured. The Republican lawmakers back Trump’s military actions while the lone Democrat calls it an unconstitutional move.ย
The U.S. and Israel launched a major attack on Iran in what Trump said was a massive operation to destroy the country’s military capabilities and eliminate the threat of it creating a nuclear weapon.
The strikes came after Trump had pressured Tehran for a deal to constrain its nuclear program, building up a fleet of American warships in the region as the country struggles with growing dissent following nationwide protests.
The Department of Defense called it “Operation Epic Fury” in a post shared on X.

South Carolina’s senators Lindsey Graham and Tim Scott sing praises to Trump, with Graham telling NBC News he’s been in touch with the president since the strikes.ย
โHelp is not on the way anymore. It arrived,โ Graham told NBC News. โPresident Trump made the right call and the world is a much better place without the Ayatollah and his henchmen. And we have a long way to go, but the Iranian people are closer to ending their oppression than ever.โ
Meanwhile, Rep. James Clyburn said a declaration of war is supposed to pass through Congress and since Trump didn’t put it up for a vote before attacking Iran, he put “American lives at risk despite the apparent absence of an imminent threat.”ย
Congresswoman Nancy Mace released a statement on the death of Khamenei on X, saying his death “marks the end of a dark era.”ย
Congressman Ralph Norman, who serves the Fort Mill and Rock Hill area, thanked Trump and the Armed Forces on X.ย
Reps. Joe Wilson, Russell Fry and WIlliam Timmons also praised the U.S.-Israel strikes. Wilson called Iran a “terror regime” that threatened the United States and Israel; Fry said, “The world is safer without the head of Iranโs terror regime.” And, Timmons said Trump is “protecting our people and standing unshaken” on X.ย
