Passengers are encouraged to arrive at the airport early to allow for additional time to pass through security.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. โ The combination of spring break travel and a partial government shutdown could lead to extended security wait times, Charlotte Douglas International Airport officials warned the public this week.ย
Airport officials advise travelers to arrive early to allow enough time to get through security and board their flights. Airports in New Orleans and Houston reported hourslong wait times with fewer TSA agents working due to the partial government shutdown.ย
Passengers flying out of Charlotte can check real-time security wait times on the airport’s website or app.ย
“We appreciate TSA and all our federal partners for their continued dedication and commitment to keeping the traveling public safe and helping passengers reach their destinations safely,” CLT said in a statement.ย
In addition to the shutdown impacting staffing, spring break is drawing large crowds at the airports. Houston Airport officials said they expect more than 2.2 million passengers to travel through Hobby and Bush, making it one of the busiest travel stretches of the year.
KHOU 11’s Michelle Choi was at Bush Airport on Saturday morning to speak with travelers.
“It’s just totally busy,” traveler Anna Gazis said. “I’ve never seen it like this, wild.”
