GUILFORD COUNTY, N.C. โ Guilford and Rockingham County Board of Elections will begin a sample hand-to-eye recount of the North Carolina Senate District 26 Republican primary contest Tuesday at 9:30 a.m., as required by state law.ย
The recount will take place in Room LG12 on the lower level of the New Guilford County Courthouse, 201 S. Eugene St. in Greensboro.
The Rockingham County Board of Elections will conduct a hand-to-eye recount Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. at the Rockingham County Board of Elections Office. The State Board of Elections will assign the precincts on Monday.
Both boards found probable cause to hold evidentiary hearings on protests filed by Republican candidate Phil Berger. His protests allege errors including voters receiving the wrong ballot, registration issues, and attempts by unaffiliated voters to switch to Republican ballots after voting began.
Recounts in Guilford and Rockingham counties have not changed the race outcome, with Sam Page holding a 23-vote lead. The protest hearings could still affect the final certified results, which are due next week.
โThe SBE will just wait to certify that contest,โ said Charlie Collicut, director of the Guilford County Board of Elections, since the protest hearings will occur after the statewide election certification on March 25.
