Organizers estimated a massive turnout for the latest “No Kings” day of action.
WASHINGTON — Thousands of “No Kings” demonstrations took place in all 50 states and abroad Saturday.
The “No Kings” theme was orchestrated by the 50501 Movement, a national movement made up of Americans protesting against what they call the “anti-democratic and illegal actions of the Trump administration and its plutocratic allies.” The name 50501 stands for 50 states, 50 protests, one movement.
“Trump wants to rule over us as a tyrant. But this is America, and power belongs to the people — not wannabe kings or their billionaire cronies,” according to the No Kings website.
The White House dismissed the nationwide protests as the product of “leftist funding networks” with little real public support.
“The only people who care about these Trump Derangement Therapy Sessions are the reporters who are paid to cover them,” White House spokesperson Abigail Jackson said in a statement.
Minnesota was designated as the flagship location in recognition of the deaths of Renee Good and Alex Pretti, who were fatally shot by federal agents earlier this year during an immigration surge in and around Minneapolis.
Organizers said roughly two-thirds of the rallies were outside major urban centers, and registrations for rallies surged in conservative-leaning states.
How many people protested during the “No Kings” events on March 28?
While turnout numbers have not yet been confirmed, organizers expected more than 9 million people to attend the events nationwide.
This is the third large-scale No Kings protest. Organizers said the first two events held in June and October of last year drew roughly 5 million and 7 million people, respectively.
The widespread event is believed to be one of the largest demonstrations in U.S. history. Two virtual events were also planned.
