Brockman has been indicted on three counts, including statutory sex offense with a child 15 or younger and first-degree sexual exploitation of a minor.
GUILFORD COUNTY, N.C. โ Former North Carolina state Rep. Cecil Brockman is in court Monday on three felony charges related to an alleged sexual relationship with a 15-year-old boy, court records show.
In court, Brockman requested a court appointed attorney. The judge also informed Brockman he would be sentenced to life in prison if he was convicted.
His next court date is May 26.
Here’s some background of this case.
Brockman, 40, of High Point, faces charges of statutory sexual offense with a child 15 or younger, indecent liberties with a child, and first-degree sexual exploitation of a minor.
Brockman was initially arrested Oct. 8, 2025, on two counts each of statutory sexual offense with a child and indecent liberties with a child. At his initial hearing, a Guilford County judge set bond at approximately $1.05 million, citing flight risk and alleged attempts by Brockman to contact the victim and obtain location information.
A judge later reduced the bond to $250,000 under strict conditions, including electronic monitoring, residing at his mother’s home, surrendering access to a cellphone and social media, and having no contact with the victim. Brockman had since posted bond and was out of jail at the time of the indictment.
Later, the grand jury returned the true bill of indictment March 2, and a judge issued an order for Brockman’s arrest the same day. He was consequently arrested and remains in Guilford County Jail with no bond.ย
Brockman represented the High Point area in the North Carolina House of Representatives and resigned from office Oct. 31.
Investigators say Brockman met the teen on the dating app Grindr, then lived with him in Atlanta before both moved to High Point. Prosecutors allege the incidents occurred around Aug. 15, 2025, when the victim was 15 years old.
Court documents allege Brockman attempted to use his status as a public official to obtain information about the teen’s whereabouts after he left. Authorities say a search of the teen’s phone uncovered 14 videos allegedly showing Brockman and the teen engaging in sexual acts. Prosecutors allege the exploitation charge stems from Brockman allowing the encounters to be recorded.
