Smith set to continue winning week at Hawkesbury

Matthew Smith is out to continue his winning run of form when sending a sizeable team to Hawkesbury on Thursday.

The Warwick Farm trainer enjoyed a winning double at Newcastle last Saturday, in addition to Ready To Shine scoring at Rosehill, and will start his Hawkesbury assault when first starter Sill Sausage starts in the Family Funday 19 July 2YO Maiden Handicap (1000m) with Braith Nock taking the ride.

“She’s a Cool Aza Beel filly that has had two trials leading into her debut and she ran second in the latest of them at Rosehill,” said Smith. “She should run a good race.”

Cool Rupert (Jay Ford) and Master Of War (Tyler Schiller) will represent Smith in the St Johns Park Bowling Club Maiden Plate (1600m).

“Cool Rupert has had a few runs back from the spell and is ready to peak, while Master Of War ran well at Hawkesbury at his latest start and has a good overall record without winning,” Smith said.

Mount St Helens (Ford) is on debut for the stable after three trials in the Steriline Super Maiden Plate (1300m), while second start winner Cosmic Order (Ashley Morgan) contests the Noelene Turner Memorial Class 1 Handicap (1000m).

“Mount St Helens is a filly by Brutal that has had a solid grounding for her first start, and she did finish third in her second trial which was at Hawkesbury,” said Smith.

“And Cosmic Order was having her second start when she went forward and held on too well to win at Hawkesbury. She should take plenty of beating again.”

Last start placegetter Dubai Warrior (Siena Grima) will run in the Good Luck James Heddo Benchmark 64 Handicap (1600m).

“He resumed at Gosford the other day and ran third in a solid effort and should be hard to hold out,” Smith said.

The consistent Honey Perfume (Claire Ramsbotham) will start in the Clarendon Tavern Conditional Benchmark 68 Handicap (1100m).

“She won well at Newcastle at her last start and has only missed a place three times from 17 starts,” said Smith. “Everything points to her running well.”
