The pathway to some three-year-old spring features starts in earnest for an exciting home track filly at Wednesday’s Randwick meeting on the Kensington course.

Unlike her name, Low Key is primed to make a high-octane return when she tackles a Maiden Plate at set weights over 1150m.

A long striding three-year-old daughter of two-time group 1 winner and fashionable sire Pinatubo in the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott stable, Low Key hasn’t started since an even effort in group 3 juvenile company in early autumn.

That day, she finished just over three lengths from the smart and speedy Blue Door, and seriously talented The Next Episode that should have won and quickly proved herself as one of the best juveniles in the country, winning two feature sprints over the Queensland carnival in May.

A seven-race meet is on at Kensington.

And if those credentials aren’t enough ahead of Low Key’s midweek return, her latest trial will have punters and racegoers rubbing their hands.

Settling out the back over 1045m on a soft 6 track, she was taken to the outside before sweeping home for a dominant win under a nice hold.

Naturally, Low Key was installed a short-priced favourite to win first-up midweek in what may prove to be a strong form reference.

Fiaba, a talented daughter of I Am Invincible and making her long-awaited debut for the Chris Waller stable, and progressive Godolphin colt Threads, a son of ill-fated Snitzel fourth-up for the Ciaron Maher yard, are among the challengers.

Low Key will likely head straight to Saturday company if she lives up to her potential at Kensington.

Tim Clark keeps the ride from the autumn for a sprint likely to be run on a soft 5 rating, with the rail out two metres.
