What was redacted from this U.K. mother’s statement
A British mother who lost her daughter to suicide has been told she can’t tell Kenneth Law: “you destroyed my whole world.”
Known as Deaf Immy on social media, Louise Nunn’s daughter Imogen posted TikTok videos raising awareness about the deaf community and mental health issues in Britain. She had more than 780,000 followers on the platform.
Immy died in January 2023. She was 25. Court documents show Immy had purchased a toxic salt from Law for $82.47 US.
Louise submitted a victim impact statement to be read out in the Ontario court, underlining “how blessed we were the day Immy came into our lives.”
“She went through more challenges than many,” Louise wrote about her daughter, “but no matter what went on in her silent world, it never changed who she was.” Louise described Immy’s heart as “filled only with love and compassion for all.”
Louise told CBC News the final paragraph of her statement has been redacted and won’t be read in court. That section reads:
“Kenneth Law, I can never forget what you have done. You destroyed my whole world. If Immy was here, I know exactly what she would say to me, but because of you, she isn’t and I am not Immy! And I will never forgive you.”
Doherty told the court prosecutors and the defence agreed to redact any passage “that went beyond the scope of topics that are permitted to be addressed in a victim impact statement.”
