
Hunt, a Democrat, was the longest-serving governor in the stateโs history, serving two eight-year terms, first from 1977 to 1985, and then again from 1993 until 2001.
“He is somebody who gave so much of his life and himself to the state of North Carolina,” saidย Mike Easley, who followed Hunt to the governor’s mansion.
“He loved North Carolina, but he loved the people of North Carolina more than anything else. And the people loved him.”
