Maximo Londonio has lived in the United States since he was 12 years old, and has been married to a U.S. citizen for more than 20 years.
SEATAC, Wash. โ A Washington man and green card holder was detained at the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport last week, according to his family.ย
At a press conference Monday, his family said they’re struggling to find out information about why he was taken and how he’s doing now.
Maximo Londonio, his wife and 12-year-old daughter were returning to SEA airport from a vacation to the Philippines when he was detained by Customs and Border Protection last Thursday.ย
According to Londonio’s wife, he moved to the United States at 12 years old, and they have been married for more than 20 years. His wife, Crystal, is a US citizen.ย
Crystal said Londonio is a loving father to their three daughters and the primary breadwinner for the family. He works at a manufacturing company in Lacey.ย
“He’s respectable. He’s hard-working. He’s family-oriented. And he’s loving. He’s not violent,” Crystal said.ย
Londonio’s family said he has two non-violent convictions from over 20 years ago, and both had been resolved.
“The lack of accountability by the United States Customs and Border Protection is failing him right now, is failing everybody,” Crystal said.ย
The family said they have traveled to the Philippines every year, and the screenings were never long.ย
KING 5 has reached out to Customs and Border Protection. The agency said it will respond when a spokesperson gathers more information on Londonio’s case.ย
Lewelyn Dixon, a former University of Washington lab technician, was detained at SEA Airport in February under similar circumstances. Dixon, a green card holder who has lived in the U.S. for more than 50 years, was detained re-entering the country from the Philippines with her family. She had a non-violent misdemeanor from 2001. Her next hearing is scheduled in July.
