ATLANTA โ Georgia Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene is speaking out against the strike and capture of Venezuelan president Nicolรกs Maduro as she prepares to leave office on Monday.
Greene, who is set to retire from Congress on Monday, shared her views during an interview with NBCโs Meet the Press ahead of her final day. She argued the U.S. should focus on domestic issues rather than foreign conflicts.
โI want to see domestic priorities that put Americans first in regards of health care — health insurance costs too much — car insurance, home insurance. And these are issues that matter to Americans. We don’t consider Venezuela our neighborhood. Our neighborhood is right here in the 50 United States, not in the Southern Hemisphere.โ
Greene, who has become a Trump critic and will step down from her seat on Monday, questioned the president’s motives immediately after the strike and ensuing capture of Maduro.
“If U.S. military action and regime change in Venezuela was really about saving American lives from deadly drugs, then why hasnโt the Trump admin taken action against Mexican cartels?
“The next obvious observation is that by removing Maduro, this is a clear move for control over Venezuelan oil supplies that will ensure stability for the next obvious regime change war in Iran.”
Georgia Democratic Sen. Rev. Raphael Warnock echoed a similar sentiment, criticizing the prospect of deeper U.S. involvement overseas.
“Americans do not want U.S. troops involved in yet another endless war or their government running another government. Yet that is what Donald Trump, who, as a candidate, promised to get us out of foreign wars, has announced we will run Venezuela. We have seen that awful movie before.”
