Robinson said, “the continued political persecution of my family and loved ones is a cost I am unwilling to continue to bear.”
CHARLOTTE, N.C. โ Former Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson announced Friday that he is dropping his lawsuit against CNN and won’t seek public office in the future.ย
In a series of posts on X, Robinson lamented the “price of entering the political arena” as something he’s not willing to put his family through any longer. He quoted Proverbs 19:11 in the thread, thanking supporters for all they’ve done for him in recent months.ย
“The words of our Savior, along with the earthly reality that costly litigation and political gamesmanship by my detractors makes clear that continuing to pursue retribution from CNN is a futile effort,” Robinson posted.ย
Robinson sued CNN in October following an investigative report that claimed Robinson posted several sexually graphic and racist comments on a pornographic website. The bombshell report was released just weeks before the election, with some experts calling it a damning blow to his campaign, which was already trailing then-Attorney General Josh Stein in the polls.ย
Several high-profile Republicans distanced themselves from Robinson in the aftermath of the report, sparking pressure for Robinson to drop out of the race.ย
Robinson, who was defeated by Gov. Josh Stein in November’s election, said it’s been the “honor of a lifetime” to serve North Carolina. However, Robinson continued by saying he will not run for public office in the future.ย
“I will not run next year, nor do I have plans to seek elected office in the future,” he said. “Until we change the hearts and souls of those inside the political arena, it is unlikely the political process itself will undergo any meaningful change.”ย
