Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office names Ricky Robbins as chief deputy

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office has named Ricky Robbins as its new chief deputy, effective April 1.

Robbins, who brings more than 40 years of law enforcement experience, will support Sheriff Garry McFadden in the overall management and strategic direction of the office, according to the sheriff’s office. He will oversee the Courts Division and Field Operations Division, which serve Mecklenburg County residents and the judicial system.

Robbins began his career with what is now the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, where he held assignments in patrol, SWAT, crash investigations and homicide investigations.

“Mr. Robbins’ experience and vision align with our mission to promote safety, accountability and trust across Mecklenburg County,” McFadden said. “He will play a key role in advancing our priorities and supporting the dedicated men and women of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.”

Chief of Staff Valerie M. Fields said Robbins’ leadership and commitment to collaboration would strengthen the office’s operations and community service. 

“We are excited to welcome Mr. Robbins to our executive leadership team as our new Chief Deputy,” Fields said. “His leadership, professionalism and commitment to collaboration will be invaluable as we continue strengthening our operations and service to the community.”

Chief of Detention Celeste D. Youngblood called him a strong addition to the agency, citing his record of professionalism and dedication to public service.

“We are proud to welcome Mr. Robbins as our new Chief Deputy”, Youngblood said. “Mr. Robbins brings a strong record of leadership, professionalism and dedication to public service. I am confident he will be a great addition to our agency as he continues to serve our community.”
