CHARLOTTE, N.C. โ Mecklenburg County officials are speaking out after an unusual disruption during Tuesday nightโs Board of County Commissioners meeting. According to county leaders, an individual released bugs into the meeting room, prompting their removal from the premises shortly afterward.
In a statement issued following the incident, the county condemned the behavior and emphasized the importance of maintaining order during public meetings.
โMecklenburg County condemns any inappropriate or out-of-order comments, or other disruptive tactics, during Board of County Commissionersโ meetings or any other public meeting,โ said Alex Burnett, Public Information Officer for Mecklenburg County Government. โCivil public participation is a bedrock of democracy. The Board has made it clear that the abuse of public participation will not be tolerated.โ
Officials did not provide further details about the individual involved or the type of bugs released.ย
