
Two Mint Hill police officers were critically wounded during a shootout on Friday morning, officials said. The suspect was killed.
MINT HILL, N.C. โ Two Mint Hill Police officers were critically injured during a shootout at an Edible Arrangements store on Friday, officials confirmed.ย
Mint Hill Police said officers responded to a child custody exchange at Edible Arrangements on Matthews-Mint Hill Road when a man allegedly pulled out a gun and a shootout ensued. Two Mint Hill officers were struck by gunfire and are in critical condition, the agency said. ย The suspect was shot and killed. Investigators haven’t released that person’s name at this time.ย
Multiple elected officials have commented on the situation.
U.S. Senator Thom Tillis posted on X, “Susan and I are praying for the Mint Hill Police officers who were shot in the line of duty. Our hearts are with their families and fellow officers. God Bless all those who serve and protect.”ย
North Carolina Senator Woodson Bradley commented on Facebook.ย
“This is awful. My heart goes out to the officers and their families. And to the Mother who has been dealing with an abusive father of her children that resorted to this. Custodial exchanges are THE MOST DANGEROUS SITUATIONS for a separated/divorced spouse with an abusive ex. Prayerful for recoveries for these officers.”ย
Bradley ran on a platform of women’s health as a domestic violence survivor. ย
Matthews commissioner Ken McCool said on X, “Todayโs violence in Mint Hill is heartbreaking. My thoughts are with the two officers who were critically injured, their families, and the entire Mint Hill Police Department. ย Iโm grateful to the first responders and medical professionals who acted quickly and bravely.”ย
North Carolina Rep. Tricia Cotham posted on X that she was praying for Mint Hill police.ย
“My heart is with Mint Hill Police,” Cotham wrote. “I’m closely monitoring the situation and I’m in contact with authorities. I ask for your prayers for all.”ย
U.S. Rep. Pat Harrigan, who represents Catawba, Iredell, Lincoln, Yadkin and part of Forsyth counties, said on X, “Praying for the two @MintHillPolice officers and their families today. ย This is a painful reminder of the risks our officers take to protect their communities.”ย
