RALEIGH, N.C. — Stoick the turtle is just happy to be alive.
Named after the character in the popular kids’ movie “How to Train Your Dragon,” Stoick is a native eastern box turtle who was hit by a car. He’s under the care of the Turtle Rescue Team at North Carolina State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine, one of more than 1,000 wild turtles the all-volunteer project will care for this year.
Ashley Chang, a third-year vet student, is Stoick’s caretaker. She’s the co-president of the program.
