CHARLOTTE, N.C. โ North Carolina Governor Josh Stein visited Quail Hallow Golf & Country Club for theย PGA Championship and spoke economic impact on Friday.
โIf you go downtown, all the hotels are full,” Stein said. “If you go out to the restaurants, all of them are full. These are people mainly from outside of Charlotte coming here and spending their money.”ย
โThe economic impact is going to be well over $100 million. Thatโs a lot of money circulating in the economy,โ Stein said.
The revenue flow is expected to reach local and state budgets, which Stein says will boost the local economy even further.ย
โA percentage of that is going to come to the state and local government in terms of revenue. So itโs smart to take a piece of that and invest to bring more events to North Carolina,โ Stein said.ย
Local vendors on the course say theyโre grateful for that circulation of revenue and for the city choosing to push Charlotte businesses.
โWe couldnโt ask for anything better, not just for us but for all the vendors here,โ local caterers Felicia and Manual Cordray said. โJust making sure theyโre not taking things out of the Queen City and actually sowing back into the Queen City, thatโs absolutely amazing.”

Stein is hopeful the influx creates a potential for more events in the near future.
