Trump criticized the federal governmentโs response to natural disasters, such as Hurricane Helene.
WASHINGTON, D.C., USA โ Donald Trump was sworn inย as the 47th President of the United States on Monday.ย
In his inaugural address, President Trump mentioned North Carolina. He criticized the federal governmentโs response to natural disasters. FEMA led the response and recovery efforts for Hurricane Helene, which devastated much of western North Carolina in September 2024.ย
โOur country can no longer deliver basic services in times of emergency, as recently shown by the wonderful people of North Carolina, who’ve been treated so badly, and other states that are still suffering from a hurricane that took place many months ago,โ Trump said.
He noted that residents in North Carolina are still facing ongoing challenges months after the storm.
According to NOAA’s National Centers for Environmental Information, Helene is estimated to be the 7th costliest hurricane on record.
Most recently, former President Joe Biden approved 100% federal funding for the first 180 days of wildfire recovery in Southern California. Biden authorized the same federal funding for North Carolina as well. ย
Meanwhile, western North Carolinaย businesses are hoping to attract tourists back to the area as recovery efforts continue.
