CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Schools nationwide have exactly one week to ban diversity, equity and inclusion programs or, face the consequences.
So, what could happen if schools defy President Trump’s order?
In a letter, President Donald Trump said schools must eliminate the programs or risk losing federal funding. That includes everything from admissions and hiring to scholarships and graduation ceremonies.
The move has sparked confusion and concern among educators.
Some worry it could mean the end of culture resource centers, student clubs and special programs for marginalized groups. Others say the broad language makes it unclear how schools are supposed to respond.
Legal experts say the letter doesn’t carry the force of the law but, instead, is meant to signal the administration’s strict stance on diversity in education.
Some schools may fight back in court while others scramble to adjust policies.
For now, the deadline remains Feb. 28th.
But, legal challenges could still delay enforcement of the bans.
