Selections based on a soft track
Race 1:
4. Without Peer was a winner on debut at Rosehill last July and was then placed in a further two starts at the track before a sixth in the Dulcify as favourite before being spelled. He resumed with a fifth at Warwick Farm earlier this month and has the class to win. 5. Emerald Hills won at Newcastle in good style at his second start and can be thereabouts again. 3. Unavoidable is an import on debut for a new stable here and has had two trials leading into this. 1. Midori Giant resumes having raced in Hong Kong and shouldn’t be taken lightly after two trials.
How to play it: Without Peer to win.
Race 2:
2. The Big Blue is yet to win but has a solid record with seven placings from eight starts. He resumed with a third at Newcastle and gets another chance to break through. 4. Crusader Voyage ran third at Kembla Grange when resuming and has shown enough ability to be tough to hold out. 5. Feazabeel has been disappointing of late but has the talent to improve and be in the minor money. 3. C’mon Flyer was fair when last produced but is worth another chance.
How to play it: The Big Blue to win.
Race 3:
6. Unleash Harry is a gelding on debut after two trials, and he ran well in the latest of them at Randwick. He should get a good run from a soft draw. 7. Written Doll has won two trials and another on debut. 8. Last Apache debuted with a sixth at Gosford in November and resumes after two trials. 9. Defiance is first-up after two trial wins and warrants respect.
How to play it: Unleash Harry each way.
Race 4:
2. Balmoral Castle resumes and has been placed in two of three starts including a third at Rosehill. She ran eighth in city grade before being spelled and has had a trial leading into this. 1. Ascot Green is on debut after two trials and looks poised to run well. 7. Mimi’s ran fifth on debut at Kembla Grange midway through last year and has had two strong trials leading into this return. 8. Plume ran home well for a last start third at Newcastle.
How to play it: Balmoral Castle to win.
Race 5:
2. Stability is on debut and has had three trials and solid grounding to run well. 1. Classic Two resumes from a long spell and is a former Hong Kong galloper that has some talent. 8. Riga lost its rider last time out and was placed in two runs before that. Has the ability to get into the mix. 14. Ready Made Heir ran well when placed last time and has solid place claims.
How to play it: Stability to win.
Race 6:
2. Waerea broke through with a strong resuming win at Kembla Grange and then ran well again when second at Newcastle last time. He’s on the way up and can win again. 3. Fiorsum Fred was placed in three straight starts before a fifth here last time out. 8. Toes In The Water gave a good sight when third at Canberra when last produced, while 7. Valiant Bomb was close-up at his latest start and shouldn’t be taken lightly.
How to play it: Waerea to win.
Race 7:
7. Falcon Lair has been placed in each of three starts since resuming and was a winner at Goulburn last October. Warrants plenty of thought. 1. Associate was close-up at Albury last time and isn’t out of this. 2. Goofinator has been racing well with wins at Canterbury and Warwick Farm before a last start second at Kembla Grange. 4. Dollars won at Taree before a last start eighth at Randwick.
How to play it: Falcon Lair to win.
Race 8:
12. Vidia did a good job when resuming with a win on the Beaumont track at Newcastle and followed that up with a second at Kembla Grange. She’s drawn the inside and should give a good sight. 6. Your Chilli won well to power over them from the back at Canberra and looks capable of being thereabouts. 4. Cheeky Smirk has only missed a place once from five starts and looks to be a leading contender. 8. My Proclama hit the line well to win at Kembla Grange last time.
How to play it: Vidia each way.
Race 9:
2. Just Awesome won well when third-up at Kembla Grange and was also a winner on debut. He’s on an upward spiral and needs to maintain that form. 4. Zocketman won his first two starts before failing at Rosehill and then being spelled. He resumes after two trials. 1. Against The Law resumes after a couple of trials and is a two-time winner that should be poised to sprint well fresh. 11. Kiss Goodnight was narrowly beaten at this track last time out and warrants respect.
How to play it: Just Awesome to win.
Best Bets: Race 4 (2) Balmoral Castle; Race 6 (2) Waerea.
Best Value: Race 8 (12) Vidia.
