The empty chairs at this Rock Hill NAACP town hall signify the refusal to listen to voters by legislators like Sen. Lindsey Graham, organizers said.
ROCK HILL, S.C. โ The Rock Hill NAACP is hosting an Empty Chair Town Hall to call attention to what it calls a lack of accountability from South Carolina legislators like Sen. Lindsey Graham and Rep. Ralph Norman.
Constituents have demanded a town hall from Graham before.ย
At a press conference concerning the wildfires that burned through parts of North and South Carolina, protestors chanted, “Town Hall! Town Hall!” Graham dismissed their demands.ย
“I don’t need a town hall to know what to do,” Graham said.ย
This was just one of multiple attempts to convince Graham to hold a town hall.ย
In lieu of a town hall featuring elected officials, Rock Hill NAACP is holding “Empty Chair Town Hall: Let’s Talk About The Issues” to discuss local issues, hear from candidates and open the floor to community members.ย
Other organizations will be present, including York County Democratic Party, York County Democratic Womenโs Council, York County SC Indivisible and York County Rising.
The Empty Chair Town Hall will start at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, May 16 at the Freedom Center in Rock Hill.ย
