Edwards endured a constant barrage of jeers, expletives and searing questions about Trump’s administration during a March 13 town hall in Asheville.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. โ President Donald Trump claimed in a social media post on Sunday that a heated town hall hosted by Rep. Chuck Edwards in Asheville was disrupted by protesters he called “paid agitators.”
Edwards held a town hall in Asheville on March 13 that essentially turned into a lengthy shouting match with angry attendees hurling jeers, expletives and searing questions about the Trump administration’s policies. About 300 people filled the auditorium for the event, while hundreds more stood outside trying to face Edwards.ย
In a post on Truth Social, Trump praised Edwards as a “total gentleman” while he was attacked by people who “scream, shout and use filthy language.”ย
Trump used the post to tout his administration’s work in western North Carolina and slammed former President Joe Biden and FEMA, which Trump said “did nothing” for Hurricane Helene victims. The president has been extremely critical of FEMA since taking office and has floated the idea of eliminating the agency.ย
“As soon as I got to office, we worked miracles, with ZERO HELP FROM THE DEMS,” Trump wrote. “WE HAVE BEEN PRAISED FOR THE JOB THAT WE DID, AND THE DEMOCRATS HAVE BEEN SCORNED.”
ย Edwards acknowledged Trump’s post on X, thanking him for the support.ย
Edwards, who represents North Carolina’s 11th district, fielded numerous scathing questions during the event and managed to keep his sense of humor. He told attendees that he appreciated hearing the crowd’s “passion” and “patriotism.”ย
The representative mostly stayed in line in supporting the Trump administration’s policies, reiterating that part of his job was seeing what decisions his constituents disagreed with so the federal government could “go back and look” at what it could improve on.
