Trump called the latest stabbing a murder, however, the victim is still alive, recovering in the hospital.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Pres. Donald Trump mentioned the light rail stabbings in Charlotte at a Pennsylvania rally on economic policy.
On Friday, Dec. 5, 33-year-old Oscar Solarzano was arrested for allegedly stabbing Kenyon Dobie, 24, near the stop along North Brevard Street and East 25th Street.
Dobie was taken to the hospital for serious injuries. Oscar Solrzano was charged with attempted first-degree murder, assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, breaking and entering of a motor vehicle, carrying a concealed weapon and intoxicated and disruptive.
This was the second stabbing in four months following the stabbing and death of Iryna Zarutska on the Blue Line, which drew national attention and comment from Trump.
At the rally, Trump mentions the latest stabbing as a murder, however, the victim survived the altercation and continues to recover in the hospital.
“What’s happening in North Carolina, two of the most vicious murders that anyone’s ever seen in Charlotte,” Trump said. “And it’s all run by the Democrats, what’s going on there?”
Trump pushed for more Republican representation across the state, and backed Senate candidate Michael Whatley, who is running against former governor Roy Cooper in the 2026 Senate race.
Whatley previously served at the chairman of the state Republican Party and chairman of the Republican National Committee in 2024.
Trump’s comments follow earlier Truth Social posts that commented on the stabbing.
“Another stabbing by an Illegal Migrant in Charlotte, North Carolina. What’s going on in Charlotte? Democrats are destroying it, like everything else, piece by piece!!!”
