TOLEDO, Ohio โ Ohio’s May 5 primary will determine which Democrat and Republican face off in November’s special election to fill the state’s open U.S. Senate seat.
Incumbent Sen. Jon Husted is the sole Republican candidate in the special election and has already landed President Donald Trumpโs endorsement.
Husted was appointed to the seat by Gov. Mike DeWine in January 2025 to succeed JD Vance when he was elected vice president. He has also served as Ohio lieutenant governor, state senator and secretary of state.
In the Democratic primary, Sherrod Brown faces Ron Kincaid.
Brown fell to Sen. Bernie Moreno in the 2024 election, losing a U.S. Senate seat he held for 17 years.
