Gateway Mining has put two chunky new gold targets on the radar at its Glenburgh South project in Western Australia’s Gascoyne after first-pass soil sampling picked out a pair of coherent anomalies running for roughly four kilometres each.

The results represent the company’s first systematic surface geochemical testing across priority structural corridors at the project. While the absolute gold values are modest, the company says the scale and continuity of the anomalism is highly encouraging for an early-stage program, particularly given the samples were collected on a very wide-spaced 200m by 800m grid.

Gateway Mining’s geological field crews are currently on site at the Glenburgh South gold project, undertaking mapping, rock-chip sampling and prospect evaluation in preparation for first-pass drill testing of the new geochemical anomalies.

The coherent gold-in-soil anomalies coincide with interpreted regional structural corridors, providing the company with a pair of large-scale targets in a district that is starting to get plenty of attention. In early-stage exploration, the size of the prize is often hinted at by the scale of an anomaly, so a pair of adjacent 4km-long structures are certainly nothing to be sneezed at.

Gateway’s ground sits in the highly prospective Glenburgh gold, immediately south of Benz Mining Corp’s Glenburgh gold project, where Benz reported recent exploration success from infill and resource-definition.

‘Infill sampling can likely pinpoint zones of stronger anomalism within the newly defined target areas.’

Gateway Mining Ltd chief executive officer Richard Pugh

In August, Benz highlighted exceptional high-grade results, headlined by one intercept of 41m grading 14.5 grams per tonne (g/t) gold from 260 metres downhole, while another hole returned 75 metres going 2.3g/t gold from 253 metres depth, spectacularly highlighting the prospectivity of the region.

Gateway Mining chief executive officer Richard Pugh said: “The first results from our regional soil sampling program have identified two sizeable gold-in-soil anomalies, each extending over approximately four kilometres of strike in a structurally favourable setting. The scale and continuity of the anomalism is very encouraging for an early-stage, first-pass regional program and supports our view that the major structural corridors at Glenburgh South warrant further exploration.”

Adding a historical layer of intrigue, exploration by Normandy back in the mid-1990’s identified significant gold anomalies from stream sediments within Gateway’s project area. The sampling highlighted an anomalous 13-kilometre surface gold trend that returned gold values of up to 6.6 parts per billion (ppb) gold, which Gateway says lie along an identical structure to the one that now hosts Benz Corporation’s nearby Glenburgh project gold mineralisation.

With a recent $45 million placement swelling its coffers, Gateway is well-capitalised to chase these new targets. Geological field crews are already on site undertaking mapping, rock-chip sampling and prospect evaluation to refine the anomalies ahead of potential drill testing.

While the company’s geos are busy mapping in preparation for follow-up drilling, its field assistants are collecting more soil samples across two additional target areas, with results expected over the coming months. Management says the work aims to understand the geological controls better and identify areas where mineralisation might be concentrated.

While its Gascoyne ground is currently getting an encouraging run in the company’s news, Gateway hasn’t taken its foot off the gas at its massive 1780-square-kilometre flagship Yandal gold project, 85 kilometres northeast of Wiluna. A reverse circulation (RC) drill rig is currently drilling at the company’s Cowza prospect and an aircore rig is testing other splay-style structural gold targets. The company says it expects to release assays shortly from the Cowza drilling.

With two 4km-long gold anomalies now in its sights at Glenburgh South, sitting on analogous structures in a red-hot district next door to a major gold discovery and with solid historical geochemical results backing the play, Gateway appears to have given itself every chance of turning early-stage geochemical whispers at Glenburgh into something much louder.
