An over-the-counter pain reliever is being recalled due to the possible presence of “foreign material” that could harm the digestive system.

Teva Canada is recalling a lot of 500-milligram Nov-Gesic Forte acetaminophen “due to the potential presence of phenolic resin or epoxy,” according to a Thursday news release from Health Canada.

Health Canada says the pills from Lot No. 100083040, with the expiration date of Jan. 31, 2029, were supplied to pharmacies in 1,000-count bottles and dispensed to patients in smaller quantities.

“Immediately stop using the affected product and return it to your local pharmacy for replacement and proper disposal,” the release states. “If you are unsure whether your product is recalled, check with your pharmacy.”

The agency says anyone who has used the affected product and has concerns about their health should contact their health-care practitioner, and should report any product-related side effects or complaints to Health Canada.

Customers can also contact Teva Canada Customer Care by calling 1-800-268-4129 or emailing customer.service@tevacanada.com.
