Alabama
Primary elections are talking place in Alabama to decide the Republican and Democratic candidates for Governor, Senate, House, Lieutenant Governor, Attorney General and Secretary of State on Tuesday.ย
The race for governor in Alabama could set up a rematch between two men who have served in the U.S. Senate.ย
Tommy Tuberville, the current Republican U.S. senator from the state and former Auburn football coach, is running for governor to replace Kay Ivey, who is retiring after becoming the longest-serving woman governor in U.S. history. Former U.S. senator Doug Jones is also running for governor, but as a Democrat.ย
If both Tuberville and Jones win their respective primaries, it could set up a rematch between the two politicians. Although for a different political office. In 2020, Tuberville defeated Jones by a margin of about 20% to become a U.S. Senator.ย
Jones’ special-election victory in the U.S. Senate in 2018 was the last time a Democratic candidate won a statewide election in Alabama. The last time a Democrat won an election for governor in Alabama was in 1998.ย
Alabama Governor’s Race results
Tuberville’s run for Senate has opened up the seat for Republican hopefuls looking to avoid running against an incumbent. Among the candidates for the U.S. Senate are Barry Moore, a U.S. representative from the state’s Gulf Coast and Steve Marshall, who has served as Alabama attorney general since 2017. Jared Hudson, a former Navy SEAL, will also be on the ballot.ย
Trump and Vice President JD Vance have endorsed Moore. However, polls show a close race between Hudson, Moore and Marshall, proving that Alabama could be another testing ground for the power of Trump’s endorsement on GOP primaries.ย
On the Democratic side, Kyle Sweetser, Dakarai Larriet, Mark Wheeler II and Everett Weiss were among the candidates on the ballot. A former Republican, Sweetser spoke out against Trump at the 2024 Democratic National Convention.
Alabama allows open primary voting, meaning independents can vote in the Democratic or Republican primaries by opting into one party’s primary at the voting booth.ย
Candidates must secure 50% or more of the vote to avoid a runoff. Otherwise, runoff elections for the top two candidates will take place in Alabama on June 16. ย
Polls will close in Alabama at 7 p.m. Central Time.ย

Georgia
Primary elections will take place in Georgia to decide the Republican and Democratic candidates for Governor, Senate, House, Lieutenant Governor, Attorney General, Secretary of State and State Supreme Court on Tuesday.ย
A crowded field of candidates for governor of the Peach State.
On the Democratic side, former Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms has been endorsed by Biden and other prominent Democrats. Bottoms’ most prominent opponents are former DeKalb County CEO Mike Thurmond, former State Senator Jason Esteves and former Republican Lt. Gov. Geoff Duncan, who switched parties a year after endorsing Kamala Harris for president.ย
Bottoms has the chance to make history, running for an opportunity to become the first Black woman to ever serve as governor of a U.S. state.ย
On the Republican side, polls show a close race between Lt. Gov. Burt Jones and healthcare executive Rick Jackson. Also on the Republican ballot is Brad Raffensperger, who has served as the Georgia Secretary of State since 2019 and became a national figure afterย refusing calls by Trump in 2021 to try to undermine the results of the 2020 presidential election after former President Joe Biden won the state by about 12,000 votes.
Jones has been endorsed by Trump, setting up another test for the power of Trump’s endorsement in Republican primaries.ย
The state’s current Gov. Brian Kemp, a Republican, is term-limited and therefore unable to run for reelection. Although Georgia is considered a swing state, the last time a Democrat won the race for governor was in 1998.ย
Georgia Governor’s Race Results:
For the U.S. Senate, Republican candidates are vying for an opportunity to take on incumbent Democrat Jon Ossoff, who has been in office since 2021.ย
The GOP field includes two U.S. representatives, Buddy Carter from the southeastern part of the state and Mike Collins from the eastern part of the state between Atlanta and Augusta, as well as former University of Tennessee football coach Derek Dooley. Polls have shown a tight race between the three candidates, with Collins consistently leading in surveys.ย
Although considered a swing state, Georgia has been represented in the U.S. Senate by two Democrats since 2021. The last time a Republican won an election to that body in Georgia was in 2016.ย

Carter and Collins’ candidacies for Senate have opened up races in their constituencies of Districts 1 and 10, respectively. Trump has made endorsements in both seats.ย
On the Democratic side, a chance to fill an unexpected vacancy in Georgia’s 13th congressional district on the outskirts of Atlanta, after Rep. David Scott’s death in April. Scott was 81 years old and had served in office since 2003. Among the candidates looking to replace Scott are State Sen. Emanuel Jones, State Rep. Jasmine Clark and cast member on “Married to Medicine,” Heavenly Kimes, an Atlanta dentist who has blended her professional life with reality television since the show’s second season in 2014.ย
Scott’s name will appear on the ballot on Tuesday.ย

Kentucky
Primary elections will take place in Kentucky to decide the Republican and Democratic candidates for the U.S. Senate and the U.S. House, among other races.ย
In the Senate, a chance to replace Mitch McConnell:
After more than 40 years serving in the U.S. Senate, including an 18-year stint leading the Republican party in that chamber, political juggernaut Mitch McConnell will be leaving office at the end of his term in 2027.ย
On the Republican side, polls show a close race between Trump’s pick, U.S. Rep. Andy Barr from Lexington and former state Attorney General Daniel Cameron. ย
Among Democrats, a rematch between former State Rep. Charles Booker and former Marine fighter pilot Amy McGrath. The two ran against each other for the Democratic nomination for U.S. Senate back in 2020, with McGrath winning that race. McGrath went on to lose that election to McConnell by a nearly 20% margin.
Although Kentucky currently has a Democratic governor, the Republican Party has been dominant in most state elections. No Democrat has won an election to the U.S. Senate in the Bluegrass State since 1992.ย
Also notable for Tuesday, Barr’s candidacy has opened up a Republican contest in his home 1st district. ย

In the House, Trump rallies voters to unseat his most prominent GOP critic
Rep. Thomas Massie, a Republican from Louisville’s eastern suburbs, has made a name for himself during the second Trump presidency by opposing much of the president’s key political agenda, including his nearly $5 trillion tax bill, “The One Big Beautiful Bill Act,” and the war in Iran. Massie has also led efforts to release the Jeffrey Epstein files while criticizing the Trump administration’s handling of the investigation into Epstein.ย
“‘Representative’ Thomas Massie will go down as the worst Republican congressman in the long fabled history of the United States Congress,” Trump wrote on TruthSocial in March. “… Massie, who is running against a great American patriot in the Kentucky primary, will hopefully lose big.”
Instead, Trump has endorsed retired Navy SEAL Ed Gallerin to replace Massie. Still, prominent Republicans like Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky, Rep. Lauren Boebert of Colorado and former Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene have endorsed Massie.
Massie has been in office since 2013.ย
Kentucky has a closed primary, meaning only voters who have registered as either a Democrat or a Republican can vote in the major party contests on Tuesday. The deadline to register was in December.ย
Split between Eastern and Central time zones, polls will close at 6 p.m. local time in Kentucky.ย

Pennsylvania
Primary elections will take place in Pennsylvania to decide the Democratic and Republican candidates for Governor, Lieutenant Governor and the U.S. House, among other races.
Without primary opponents, incumbent Democratic Gov. Josh Shapiro and Republican Treasurer of Pennsylvania Stacy Garrity are poised to win their respective parties’ nominations as the presumptive nominees.
Although considered a swing state, Shapiro managed to win in a landslide 15% margin against his Republican opponent in 2022. The Democrat had been interviewed as an option for Kamala Harris’ running mate in 2024, a slot that was eventually given to Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz.ย
The last Republican to win an election as governor in Pennsylvania was Tom Corbett in 2010.ย
Out of Pennsylvania’s 17 congressional districts, the Democratic primaries in the 3rd and 7th are considered highly competitive.
Inside the heart of Philadelphia, the race to replace Dwight Evans has pitted State Rep. Chris Rabb, former health official Ala Stanford and State Sen. Sharif Street against one another in a race to represent a solidly Democratic district.ย
Well-known party names have descended upon the district from outside Pennsylvania to campaign for candidates in the third district. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) was in Philly last Friday to endorse Rabb and U.S. Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.J.) crossed into neighboring Pennsylvania to endorse Street.ย
In a different type of political battle, District 7 represents a Democratic attempt to take control of what is considered a swing district. Located in and around Allentown, the district has voted for both Biden in 2020 and Trump in 2024. Trump won the seventh district by a margin of about 3%, in 2024.ย
Among the Democrats, polls show a tight race between firefighter union leader Bob Brooks, former federal prosecutor Ryan Crosswell and Lamont McClure for that seat. Incumbent U.S. Rep. Ryan Mackenzie, who was elected in 2024 by a margin of about 1%, has already shored up the Republican nomination as the presumptive nominee.ย
Polls close in Pennsylvania at 8 p.m. Eastern Time.ย
