Rep. Carla Cunningham introduced the Dominique Moody Safety Act in response to the death of the 6-year-old Charlotte girl in December.ย
If passed, the bill would establish a child welfare escalation team. Each region would have a team responsible for reviewing high-risk abuse cases. It would also make changes to Child Protective Services’ assessment practices and provide funding to train CPS employees and county social workers.ย
Last week, state lawmakers requested all Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police and Mecklenburg County DSS files in the case.ย
Moody was found unresponsive in her guardian’s home in east Charlotte. Investigators allege the girl was often starved, restrained and beaten. Three women face murder charges in connection with Moody’s death.ย
