John Schell
Selections based on a good track.
Race 1
1. Appeared is a former Irish-based galloper on debut for the Bjorn Baker stable. He was a winner at The Curragh in October last year at his third start before arriving in Australia. Baker has given Appeared two barrier trials, and he was close-up in the latest of them at Randwick. He looks set to run a bold race fresh. 5. Tacitly has been placed in both runs since resuming from a spell and only needs to hold that form to be hard to hold out. 7. Joika was a winner at Scone before a last start third at this track, and she looms as a leading contender again. 8. Proxima Centauri was a Goulburn winner two starts ago and since finished third at Wyong in a solid performance.
How to play it: Appeared WIN.
Race 2
5. Esnaad is a Tassort filly making her debut and has been fitted for this with a number of barrier trials. She was midfield in the latest of them at Randwick and can show up here without surprising. 7. Let There Be Drums was midfield on debut at Hawkesbury earlier in the year and resumes here after a second in a Hawkesbury trial. 9. Pointy End is also on debut and has had a solid grounding with two trials to prepare. 1. Final Gift only has the one placing from nine starts but could get into the placings without shocking.
How to play it: Esnaad WIN.
Race 3
4. Cosmic Order won well at Hawkesbury four starts ago then was close-up with a couple of fourth placings before a last start failure at Wyong. She is capable of bouncing back in this. 2. Aeternum battled on well enough when a last start fourth at Port Macquarie and can give cheek here. 1. Argyros won well on debut at Taree before a fourth at Port Macquarie and was then spelled. He resumes here after two trials and bears close watching. 3. The Warrior has a solid enough record with a win and four placings from 12 starts.
How to play it: Cosmic Order WIN.
Race 4
1. The Prospect ran his best race yet when a last start second at Hawkesbury when beaten less than a length. He’s had a trial since then to be kept up to the mark for this and should be in the thick of things. 2. Gold Globe ran well when a last start placegetter on the Kensington track at Randwick and a repeat of that would have him in the finish of this. 3. Heliconia can bob up on her day and won a three-horse trial at Illawarra Grange when last produced. 5. My Cartouche was placed at Wyong last time out and can be thereabouts.
How to play it: The Prospect WIN.
Race 5
7. Photoshop was down the track on debut at Canterbury but then improved when finishing second at Kembla Grange at her only other start. She should take up a position here and take plenty of beating. 8. Plume is resuming from a spell and has been placed in one of her four starts. 5. Avon Calling has been placed in both runs since resuming and has solid claims again. 2. Revamped was down the track as favourite on debut here but can improve on that performance.
How to play it: Photoshop EACH WAY.
Race 6
5. Asilah won on debut on the Beaumont track here earlier in the year before finishing fourth in a Warwick Farm event. She resumes here on the back of two trials and can run well fresh. 6. I’m Relevant was placed here before scoring a strong last start win at Wyong and is worth thought again. 1. Andron resumes and has a good record with a win and two placings from just three starts. 2. Woodrow went down fighting at Grafton last time out and has claims.
How to play it: Asilah WIN.
Race 7
8. Divine Secrets won in good style at Canberra back in March and then was placed in two of her next three starts in provincial grade before being spelled. She resumes here after two trials and looks primed to run well. 9. Call Me Sassy has a good record with a win and seven placings from nine starts and shouldn’t be far from the action again. 5. Equilibrist has tackled a couple of Midway events in the city of late and this looks more suitable. 12. Vittozzi has had two runs back from a spell and should be ready to peak after a last start fifth at Gosford.
How to play it: Divine Secrets WIN.
Race 8
1. Prince Of Sorts wasn’t too far away when running eighth at Doomben when resuming and followed that up with a third at Wyong when fighting on well. He’s racing well enough to give this a shake. 3. The Stars Align won well at Moruya before failing in tougher grade at Randwick when last produced. This looks more suitable. 7. Tact went down narrowly at Taree when last produced and has claims on that effort. 6. Rush Attack has been midfield in a couple of recent Randwick runs and could be thereabouts without surprising.
How to play it: Prince Of Sorts WIN.
Best Bets: Race 1 (1) Appeared.
Race 7 (8) Divine Secrets.
Best Value: Race 5 (7) Photoshop.
