Super Bright has been something of a stalwart in Nathan Doyleโs stable and while her racing days are numbered heโd like to think she can show at Warwick Farm on Wednesday that thereโs more wins in store before time is called.
The seven-year-old mare was a winner at Canterbury in January and with the stronger autumn carnival racing around she resurfaces for what could well be her final preparation in the Catanachโs Jewellers Handicap (1100m).
With six wins from 41 starts and almost $400,000 in prizemoney, Doyle said sheโs been a great horse for the stable and now is the right time for her to be in work.
โSheโs been around a while and sheโs been as honest as ever for the owners,โณโฃ Doyle said.
โSheโs fit and well and sound and sheโs enjoying her racing but the day she tells us sheโs not she will be retired.
โWe gave her a little bit of a let up after her last start in planning to target off season winter racing.
โShe appreciates getting her toe in so we thought thatโd be the right plan.โ
Doyle said Super Bright has freshened up since her last start fourth, beaten half a length, at Canterbury at the end of February and while sheโs more effective over 1200m heโd expect her to be competitive.
โSheโs been plagued by bad barriers, when she draws well you can ride her a pair closer which is vital with her,โณโฃ he said.
โA good gate helps and we should be able to ride her just behind the speed.
โIt seems the right race, 1100m is probably short of her best but she has had the one soft trial and she can sprint well fresh.โ
Rush Attack will be having his second run since last June and his first for a month when Doyle rolls the dice in the Exceedence @ Vinery Stud Handicap (1300m).
The Newcastle trainer said heโs been waiting for the gelding to find the right scenario to improve on his first-up run but hasnโt been handed any favours so he has to go to the races and try his luck.
โIโve scratched him twice because heโs drawn badly and heโs drawn wider,โณโฃ he said.
โYou canโt sit at home in the box forever. Itโs not ideal but his first-up run was good.
โHe sits in that 72 bracket and weโre just trying to find the right races for him and build him up.โ
